The Roots - Below the Surface
The Roots symbolize the below the surface aspect of our discipleship: the parts that most people don’t see.
This is where our spirituality is developed; it’s the inward life – the ‘being’.
Our discipleship deepens as our own personal relationship with Jesus grows and develops. We look to Jesus for inspiration as he actively pursued a deep personal relationship with his Father. In passages like Mark 1:35 we read:
‘Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed’. (NIV)
As healthy disciples, we will choose to develop spiritual disciplines and practises in our lives which will deepen our personal relationship with Jesus. Spiritual disciplines can be explored by attending Spiritual Retreats and then practised in our everyday lives. This deep spiritual life is beautifully illustrated in Psalm 1...
‘Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel ofthe wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.’
Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)
