WEEKLY STUDY
Sermon on the Mount- A guide for personal reflection or group discussion
This is going to be a series of questions that can be used for personal reflection or for use as Connect Group Questions. Although they are based on the text for each Sunday they are not drawn from or a reiteration of the sermon nor do they replace the Sunday sermon.
They are designed to act as a companion, to explore, to reflect upon the ideas within the passage and other related scriptures.
Some questions are intentionally designed to rattle our cage. To challenge our paradigms. To push the envelope. This helps us re-examine afresh our personal convictions and develop a better world view.
They will involve three kinds of questions. 1. Those which introduce an idea or theme, a kind of kick-off questions which stimulate thinking or talking 2. Exploration questions. These pull apart some our text and other related passages, to increase our understanding and 3. Application questions. Because in the end Jesus said it is the wise person who both hears the world of God and puts it into practice, that builds their house upon the rock. Also, James reminds us in 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
So, whether you reflect on these by yourself, or chat them through with others my hope and prayer is that you will be blessed.
